If you have ever lived in or visited the Charlotte area, you are familiar with the two lakes that cuddle the wonderful city of Charlotte. When visiting either lake, it is apparent there is a vibrancy and excitement for fun, relaxation and good times. The only thing lying beneath is the competition between the people who live there. You can find LKW and LKN stickers on SUV’s all over Charlotte demonstrating their loyalty for their home. So which one is it? Where would you belong on the weekends and days you play hooky from work? Let’s discuss!

Lake Wylie is a smaller lake that sits on the southern end of Charlotte. It is nestled on the state border of North and South Carolina. It has a small town lake feel that is full of activity and family fun. It has islands and two popular sandbars that are bustling with music and celebrations every weekend. Lake Wylie has the local favorite T-Bonz bar and grill and the popular wedding venue The Red Fez Shrine Club. Tega Cay is the recreational community of Lake Wylie that is full of parks and an award-winning golf course. You can also catch a weekly water skiing show every Friday of the summer.

Lake Norman is a larger lake that is located on the opposite end of Charlotte. Some of the smaller communities that surround the lake include Huntersville, Mooresville and Cornelius. You can visit popular bars such as Rusty Rudder and Eddie’s or make your way to Carolina Harbor for a five star date night. There are several fishing and dinner cruises available to help provide you an experience you will not soon forget. Lake Norman also has a lot of buzz that draws in local Charlotte celebs. If you are lucky, you might even catch one of the several NASCAR drivers who live lakeside laying out on their shore.

With all there is to do on either lake it’s obvious that there is plenty of fun and memories to be made. Whether you are a Lake Wylie fanatic or a Lake Norman lover you are sure to enjoy some fun in the sun with the benefits of the big city of Charlotte close by. So now it’s up to you decide, which lake reigns queen of the Queen City?
